Wish typically receives notifications of recalls from government regulators, brand owners, or manufacturers. These notifications include the product name, issue, and reasoning as to why the recall exists.

Regulator-announced recalls: Occurs when regulators (in cooperation with the manufacturer, authorized retailer(s), or brands) announce recalls. A regulator is a person or organization that is appointed by the government that regulates and enforces an area of legal activity. Regulators maintain public announcements and past reports of the recalls on their websites. Manufacturer-driven recalls: The manufacturer (or brand owner/supplier) notifies retailers, online marketplaces, and supply chain partners of the recall. This can occur with or without government regulator involvement. These types of recalls can either be voluntary or involuntary. Manufacturers can choose to create recall summary reports on their websites or not. Other important features of manufacturer-announced recalls include:

• Global online marketplaces (OMPs) that are part of a recall must cooperate with the reporting party to conduct platform sweeps. This involves removing the recalled products from the online marketplace.
• OMPs should notice the applicable merchants/sellers, and cooperate to process refunds to customers to a degree.
• Platform listing takedowns and metrics can be disclosed, to ensure regulator reporting obligations are met, and for general consumer awareness and education.
